  • COATS – Jimmy 'JP' Norris, age 90, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2014 at South Wind Hospice in Pratt. He was born April 25, 1923 on the family farm northeast of Coats, to James B. and Artha A. (Underwood) Norris. He married Martha Joan Cozens on July 23, 1944 at Grace United Methodist Church in Coats. She survives.
    Jimmy was a farmer, a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Coats and served as chairman of the church board for many years. He was also a member of Coats Masonic Lodge then Kilwinning Masonic Lodge No. 265 in Pratt, a 32 degree Mason in Consistory at Wichita and Midian Shrine in Wichita, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was past master of Masonic Lodge in Coats and Pratt and was past worthy patron Order of the Eastern Star in Coats and Pratt, and was past president of the Pratt County Farm Bureau Association.
    Jim is survived by his wife, Martha; son, Joseph "Joe" and wife Marilynn Norris of Andover; two grandchildren, Michael and wife Annie Norris of Lee Summit, Mo., and Cassie and husband Matt Mar of Shawnee; two great-grandchildren, Jillian Voth and James Joseph 'JJ' Norris; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Eubank of Coats, and Doris Norris of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and his cat Sam.
    He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Norris and sister, Phyllis Cooper.
    Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the mortuary with Chaplain Jerry Hodges presiding. Private family inurnment will be at Coats Cemetery.
