The Pratt girls got back on-track Friday with a 50-27 run-rule victory over the visiting Macksville Mustangs.
Last season, it was woe unto the next team the Pratt girls played following a sub-par performance. Several times last season, the Lady Greenbacks played angry and blew out the next team they faced after having a less-than-stellar game. After Lady Green had an off-night last Friday letting Smoky Valley get their first win of the season, Macksville had to figure a beating was coming. And it did. The Pratt girls got back on-track Friday with a 50-27 run-rule victory over the visiting Macksville Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs hung with Lady Green for the first four minutes or so. They hit some shots and only trailed 8-5 at the 4-minute mark. However, at that point, PHS went on a 9-2 run to close out the frame and seize control of the contest. The Lady ’Stangs had no answer for Jenson Maydew, who poured in 10 of her game-high 25 points in the first quarter. Pratt began to get the transition game working and Stonie Flemming converted a jumper and Amy Olson had an “and-1”. Destani Garten added a pair of free throws and Pratt was up 17-7 after one quarter. The Lady Frogs shared the ball well in Q2 as five girls scored. Haylie Hook, Garten and Olson each put in a bucket. Bre Becker had a 2 and a 3 and Maydew struck for another 6 points as PHS took a 34-15 lead at the half. The Pratt defense was forcing the Lady Mustangs into numerous turnovers. Macksville made a few shots here and there, but Pratt was firmly in charge of the ballgame. The third quarter saw Pratt’s defense stiffen even more as they only allowed 2 points to Macksville in the stanza. Meanwhile, Pratt continued to score by working the ball inside. Maydew put up 9 more points and Becker added another pair of hoops. with a Windex bucket and a coast-to-coast lay-up. Outscoring Macksville 13-2 in the third quarter put Pratt up 47-17 heading into the final period, which ushered in the running clock. With reserves manning the floor, time ran out quickly and the final score was 50-27 Pratt.
