The Skyline girls basketball team was defeated by Norwich 44-34 on Tuesday night for the second time this season. Earlier, in the 54 Classic, the Eagles handled the T-Birds 41-25. Although the margin of victory was smaller this time, it was still another win for Norwich. There was no danger early on of needing to replace light bulbs in the scoreboard. In the last 2:32 of the first quarter, Kamryn Stark got a steal and an and-1 lay-up; Kadi Richardson hit a hoop and Brooke Fisher made a lay-up to give Skyline the lead 7-6 after eight minutes. Defense dominated for both teams for much of the contest. Skyline had 19 turnovers in the first half while only managing 16 shots on goal. The Lady Eagles put up 10 points in Q2. Betsy Giles, Fisher and Richardson scored to help the T-Birds keep pace. Norwich led 16-14 at the intermission. In Q3, the Thunderbirds started to get untracked a little bit. Mycha Owens and Stark each carde 4 points, and Taylor DeWeese chipped in a bucket. But Norwich also posted 10 points in the frame, and so continued to lead by two, 26-24, headed to the 4th quarter. The Lady T-Birds tried to rally in the final stanza, but ended up having to put the Eagles on the free throw line the later it got. With 2:40 left, Norwich had extended its cushion to 9. Madalyn Owens connected for Skyline to get the deficit back to 7. Mycha Owens made a freebie and Giles converted a putback to get Skyline within 5. Norwich made 4 from the charity stripe sandwiched around a T-Bird turnover that pushed the lead back to 9 with about a minute to play. With 26 seconds left, Fisher brought Skyline closer with a 3-ball, but Norwich was still in control 41-34. After another Skyline foul, Norwich made the first FT, then got a putback on the second to account for the final score, 44-34 Norwich.
