The PCC baseball team swept Bethany JV on Wednesday; the PCC softball team split with Tonkawa on Thursday.

The PCC baseball team defeated Bethany JV in a doubleheader Wednesday by scores of 7-4 and 10-9. In addition to being cold at the games, it was also not warm. The Beavers now stand at 5-8. They will host Dodge City Friday at 1 pm in a game moved up from Saturday, presumably in an attempt to avoid having to play in another polar vortex.

The Pratt Community College softball team picked up its first win of the campaign Thursday, taking game one of a twin bill from Tonkawa at Angood Field. The Lady Beavers came from behind in the opener to post an 8-3 win, but dropped the nightcap 11-2 in 5. Trailing 3-1, the Beavers rallied for 4 runs in the 5th inning to take a 5-3 lead. The big blow was a bases–clearing double off the bat of Summer Snyder, which chased Cassie Kelly, Peyton Jones and Stephanie Seewer. After setting the Tonkawas down in the 6th, PCC got the bats back out for their half of the 6th. They tacked on 3 more runs when Cassie Kelly jacked one over the left field fence. The defense held Tonkawa in the 7th and the Lady Beavers prevailed 8-3. Cassie Kelly had 4 RBIs with a double and a homer to pace the offense. Fern Garcia picked up the win in the circle, allowing just 3 runs to Tonkawa over 7 innings. The Lady Mavs seized control of the game early in the nightcap, plating 8 runs in the first inning and never looking back. Cassie Kelly had two hits, but the rest of the offense was pretty quiet for PCC in the finale. Hurler Emily Wooldridge took the loss. 11-2 Tonkawa in 5. Pratt is now 1-5. They will travel to Hutch on Tues March 4 and Dodge City Wed March 5 to start conference play.
