  • For the second year, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism is offering a discount on state park admission fees. Available only in conjunction with vehicle registration renewal, a 12-month pass can be purchased for $15.50, with 50 cents being retained by the county treasurer’s office.
A person can buy a pass for as many vehicles as you own, said Linda Lanterman, KDWPT state parks director.
The regular price is $25 for an annual pass, or $5 at the gate.
The model was borrowed from Michigan, Lanterman said, where 10 to 17 percent of passes are sold along with vehicle registrations. At the beginning of its second year, participation in Kansas is 3 percent. It’s especially low in Pratt County, which Lanterman finds disturbing, given that KDWPT headquarters is here.
There are a lot of park users in Pratt County, she said, with El Dorado, Kanopolis, Wilson and Cheney lakes being popular destinations.
The discount pass is not available for antique or commercial vehicles.
