The Pratt Wrestling Team qualified 6 wrestlers to the NJCAA National Tournament in Spokane, Washington, this past weekend to compete for All-American honors and a national title. Of the six, one tabbed All-American honors by placing 7th in the country at 174 pounds. Cody Carson had a great tournament by advancing to the quarterfinals for the Beavers on the first day before dropping his quarterfinal match and then advancing to the second day with a win to All-American. This is the third year in a row that Pratt has had an All-American at the NJCAA National Tournament. Cody Carson went from having an 8-20 freshman year to being ranked as high as 8th in the nation and becoming an All-American in just under a year. Carson defeated a few ranked opponents to get through the tournament and earned his way through the backside with a 7th place finish. Skyler McComb, Korey Pfannenstiel, Austin Hughey, and Mitchell Baird also competed and had tough draws to start the tournament while competing against ranked opponents and All-Americans themselves in the first two rounds. The team finished 32nd in one of the most competitive atmospheres in the NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament’s history. This streak is a good starting point for this young program and a good base to start from for next year.
