Gabrielle Shanae Murray age 13, went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2014 following 16 months of suffering from cancer.
Gabrielle was born on July 10, 2000 at Kearney, Neb., to Kevin and Chandra Murray. She spent the first years of her life at Cedar Creek Church north of Burwell, Neb. Two years were spent near Hutchinson, where she delighted people at Grace Bible Church. In 2006 the family moved to Pratt, where her father is pastor of the Pratt Bible Church.
When she was very young, Gabrielle accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and Lord. She never wavered from her faith and was a very bright light for Christ. She always had a smile for everyone, no matter how much pain she was in. She was a very determined young lady and kept going the best she could with her activities.
Gabrielle was home schooled and had almost completed the eighth grade. She loved math and history and had a passion for the Constitution of the United States, so she dreamed of being a United States Supreme Court Justice someday. She had an active part in Pratt Christian Home Education Association and loved to sing and perform at Family Night. She loved basketball and played in the Pratt Recreation league when she was younger. Eventually she joined the National Division 2 Christian Homeschool Basketballers. Gabrielle was a starter on the Southern Kansas Thunder basketball team which received second in the national tournament this spring.
One of Gabrielle's favorite things to do was to act in Pratt Community College plays. Her favorite roles were: the doormouse in “Alice in Wonderland,” young Ebeneezer Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol,” and Pepper in “Annie.” Gabrielle also loved the Pratt Swim Team and was active in swimming and helping coach the younger swim team members.
4-H was one of Gabrielle's favorite activities. She was a member of the Golden Valley 4-H Club in Pratt County, where she served as secretary, treasurer, and currently was the parliamentarian.
Her favorite projects were clothing construction, ceramics, photography, and foods. She loved to sew and to make extravagant cakes. Gabrielle liked speaking in public and most recently won Grand Champion at Pratt County 4-H Club Day with a team demonstration done with her sister and best friend, Shiloh, on “Manners to the Rescue.”
Survivors include: parents Kevin and Chandra Murray, sister Shiloh Murray, grandparents Arthur and Virginia Murray of Hutchinson, and Carol Plate of Ainsworth, Neb., and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
