PrattTribune - Pratt, KS
  • Lady Green, Trojans split pair

  • You had to figure it would be a pair of close games when the Hillsboro softball team came calling Friday on Pratt High at the Green Sports Complex. Hillsboro was undefeated at 12-0 and 10-2 Pratt’s only losses were to 5A Hays.

Perhaps fittingly, the evenly matched teams traded games in the twin bill—Pratt taking the opener 3-0 and the Trojans taking the nightcap 5-2.

Brittnee Hill tossed a shutout in game one, scattering three hits. The Greenback defense made some nice plays on the few occasions when Hillsboro threatened. In the top of the 4th with Pratt up just 1-0, the Trojans had a runner on first with no out. The sac bunt was fielded by PHS, with 2B Bre Becker taking the throw at first.
Alertly, Becker then fired the ball to second where Lauren Rambat was covering and the Trojan baserunner had rounded the bag too far, getting herself caught in a rundown and tagged out for a double play that turned the inning around.
PHS scored in the first inning when Bailey Gillig knocked in Savanah Buntemeyer. In the fifth, leading 1-0 and looking for insurance, Rambat reached on a bunt base hit. After a sac bunt by Becker, Buntemeyer blasted a triple into the left field corner, scoring Rambat. Buntemeyer then scored on a wild pitch. 3-0 Pratt, and that’s where game one ended.
In game two, Lady Trojan hurler Julie Sinclair kept the Frogs off-balance for most of the game. Hillsboro got their bats going in the nightcap, leading 5-1 after 4 ½ innings. The big blow was a solo home run by Danae Bina.
Pratt got one back in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Becker and an RBI single from Dakota Jones. That was all they would get however, and Hillsboro took game two 5-2.
