  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to live up to its name at the box office this weekend, raking in $92 million in what analysts are nevertheless calling a disappointing debut. Box Office Mojo notes that the total is far short of the opening numbers for the first and third installments in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, which both premiered during the first weekend in May and took in $114.8 million and $151.1 million, respectively. Still, with no other wide-release movie to compete with, the 2014 sequel still easily landed at No. 1 for the weekend.
Last week's top film, The Other Woman, fell to second place with $14.2 million, while Heaven Is for Real held steady at No. 3 with $8.7 million.

At No. 4 was Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which earned $7.7 million and narrowly beat Rio 2, whose weekend total was $7.6 million.
In its second week, Brick Mansions dropped off more than 60 percent and landed at No. 6 with $3.5 million. After being in theaters for seven weeks, Divergent jumped two spots to No. 7 with $2.1 million, edging out The Quiet Ones, which collected $2 million.
Returning to the Top 10 on this slow weekend were God's Not Dead (No. 9, $1.76 million) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (No. 10, $1.73 million).
