  • The Pratt High School baseball team rode good pitching to a sweep of visiting Haven Friday night at the Green Sports Complex. In game one, PHS won 9-0. They took the second contest 7-2.
“We got good pitching tonight,” head coach Pat Stivers observed. “That has been more of a constant for us this year than anything.” Sean Noel threw a shut-out in game one. In the nightcap, Brandon Ruckle started on the bump, but had to leave the game in the first inning when he tweaked his elbow throwing a curve ball. Jacob Kurz relieved and became the winning pitcher.
In game one, Kurz, Dakota Venard and Sean Noel scored in the first inning. Noel and Devon Evert had base hits. In the second inning, Kurz doubled and Noel singled, both eventually scored and Pratt was up 5-0 after two.
Kurz and Ruckle both scored in the fourth with some BB and HPB aiding the Frog cause. Pratt scored their final two in the fifth on Will Fellhoelter walk, an Evert infield hit and a 2-run single by Seth Simmons.
The Havens had something going in the top of the seventh, with runners at first and second and one out. But then 2B Fellhoelter made a nice play going back on a popper into short right and doubled the Wildcat runner off second to end the ballgame.
In the nightcap, the Greenbacks again jumped ahead early, pushing 5 runs across in the bottom of the first. Haven had taken their only lead of the night by getting a run in the top of the first, but PHS more than got that back in their turn.
Venard singled, Ruckle blasted a triple to the right field wall, Noel and Fellhoelter drew walks, Forshee got an infield RBI hit, Evert was plunked, Dylan Pelland walked, and Hayden Schrag hit a sac fly to account for the 5-spot.
The Greenbacks managed a couple of more runs as the game progressed, aided at times by Haven throwing errors. They led 7-1 heading to the top of the seventh. Again, the Wildcats tried to get something going in the final inning. They were able to push one across, but that was it and Pratt took game two 7-2.
PHS will travel to Kingman next Tuesday for their final CKL match-up. They play Ulysses next Friday in the regular season finale.
