Alvin Merle Kennedy, age 89, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham. He was born Oct. 21, 1924, to Fred L. and Edna (King) Kennedy on the family farm near Centerview. On July 25, 1945 he married Lois Irene Deckert at Larned. She survives.

Merle served in the Navy during World War II. He was a soil conservation technician for 33 years and had served as secretary of the Kansas Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pratt and a member of Elm Mills where he served as a board member and president. Some of his favorite times were at Elm Mills with family and attending grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; a son, Steve (Paulette) Kennedy of Madison, Miss.; four daughters, Rhonda (Ron) Richardson of Wichita, Brenda (Don) Pilger of Wichita, Nancy (Jay) Bailey of Pratt and Julie (Ron) Volske of Wichita; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Visitation is to be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Larrison Mortuary 300 Country Club Rd., Pratt. Family will receive friends from 6 -8 Thursday at the mortuary. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the First United Methodist Church in Pratt. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Pratt Area Humane Society in care of the mortuary. Condolences can be left at
