Verlin Harold Killingsworth was born Oct. 8, 1931, to Loyd and May (Garber) Killingsworth near Sawyer, where he lived all his life. On June 7, 2014, after a battle of pneumonia at Pratt Regional Medical Center, his spirit returned to the Creator, at South Wind Hospice, Pratt. Dad endured various afflictions patiently without complaint.

He lost his father at age of 16 years to tragic tractor accident and was stricken with polio, at 17 years old, affecting his left leg.

At the age of 16, Dad answered the call to follow Christ as his Savior, and was baptized, becoming a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, where he was called to the deacon’s office. In 2009, he joined with the New Conference. We especially remember Dad’s love of singing and how he effortlessly let the words flow from his heart out his lips.

On Jan. 19, 1957 he was united in marriage to Darlene Wray. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for a little over 57 years.

Dad enjoyed various occupations: farming, livestock, poultry, building and operating The Village Restaurant, now called the Family Food Store, and the trucking business. One of his greatest enjoyments was doing something for someone else. He never knew a stranger and shared the Lord’s kindness along the way. If you ever needed something and he had it he would gladly give it.

Surviving him are his wife, two sons and two daughters, Stan, and Wes (Faith), Leah, and Lori; six grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Wray and Donna (Vernon) Hirt; one brother, Harold (Carmen) Killingsworth; two stepsisters; Mary Jo Patton and Joanna Sager.

Preceding him in death are his parents and stepfather Paul Johnson; one infant brother; one brother-in-law, Donald Wray; and one stepbrother, Bill Johnson.

His life was a testimony of his love of the truth and faith in God.

The Lord gave and had taken away blessed be the name of the Lord.

Visitation is from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday June 11. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12. Both are at The Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Sawyer. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sawyer.
