Joe A. Dean, 78, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at South Wind Hospice in Pratt.
He was born Dec. 14, 1935, eight miles west of Camargo, Okla., the son of Adison H. and Ruby May (Adamson) Dean. On Dec. 28, 1953, he married Shirley Hargadine at Clayton, N.M. She survives.
Joe had worked as the lunch counter manager at Duckwalls in Pratt and later founded the J.A. Dean Company. He was active with the Boy Scouts, Pratt Recreation Department, youth baseball, Greenback Booster Club and coached American Legion Baseball.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; a son, Scott (Brenda) Dean of Pratt; two daughters, Roxann (Jim) McKenzie of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Candi (Alan) Jackson of Pratt; two brothers, Clay Dean of Springfield, Mo., and Clinton Dean of Corona, Calif.; two sisters, Ruby Kettering of Buffalo, Okla., and Faye Ragsdale of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmom, Lily Doan Dean and a special aunt and uncle, Grace and Thad Huffman.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.
