Robert G. May, 91, died July 27, 2014, at Kansas Christian Home, Newton. He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Olympia, Wash., to Jack Luther and Grace Edna Blackman May.

The family moved to McPherson in 1926, where he attended McPherson School. At the age of 20, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the Solomon Islands and Philippine campaigns in the Pacific.

After returning home, he moved to Fredonia, where he managed a grain elevator. There he met and married Ila M. Deal on Jan. 6, 1947. From there the family moved to the Duquoin-Rago area, where he managed a grain elevator, then moved to Pratt in 1978 and worked in the oil field until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Nov. 17, 2011.

Survivors include three children, Gail L. May, Lenexa, Allen L. May, Alva, Okla., and Carolyn M. May, Newton; a sister, Betty Kuzlik, Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, with Pastor Steve Taylor officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the mortuary, 115 E. Fourth, Pratt, KS 67124.
