A pair of juveniles target practicing south of the Ninnescah River and east of Lemon Park accidentally shot a homeless man sleeping behind the trash barrel they were using for target practice late Wednesday morning.
A homeless man was the victim of an accidental shooting in Lemon Park late Wednesday morning.
A pair of juvenile boys, ages 15 and 16, were target practicing in an area south of the Ninnescah River and east of Lemon Park. A 46-year-old homeless man was sleeping behind a trash barrel the boys were using for a target and one of the rounds struck the man in the leg, said Pratt County Sheriff Vernon Chinn.
The boys called for help and cooperated with the investigation. The victim was taken to Pratt Regional Medical center where he was treated for a gunshot wound.
The incident was reported at 11:33 a.m. Pratt County Sheriff’s Office, Pratt Police Department and Pratt County Emergency Services all responded to the incident.
No names will be released in this incident and the case will be sent to the Pratt County Attorney for further review. No further information will be released at this time.
