  • The Park Hills men’s league wrapped its regular season Tuesday night with some interesting developments. Although Scott Strong and Dan Gillig easily completed their domination of Division 2, Division 1 came down to a tiebreaker.
Standings leaders Frank Meisenheimer/ Darrell Shumway absorbed a 14-8 whipping in their match-up with Rick Reber/Frank Hopkins, which allowed Division 1 dark horses John Mathes and Jim Lewis to slip into a first place tie by virtue of their 15-7 win over AC Boland/ Don Hommertzheim.
Mathes/ Lewis had been quietly sneaking up the standings, culminating in their tie for the Division 1 top spot. However, Shumway/ Meisenheimer were awarded the tiebreaker by the Games Committee.
According to members of the Games Committee, there is no truth to the rumor that Shumway discussed distributing bribes and Meisenheimer ( a judge) threatened legal action if the Games Committee did not decide in their favor. It actually came down to the fact that Shumway/ Meisenheimer outscored Lewis/ Mathes in their earlier head-to-head match-ups. Lewis’ consolation prize was the evening’s only egg (#7-net 3) in Division 1.
Frank Laubhan engineered nice up-and-down pars on the final two holes to give him and partner Neil DePew a narrow 15-7 win over Kenton Ladenburger/ Ned Albers. That win allowed Laubhan/ DePew to hang onto 3rd place in Division 1.
Also in Division 1, Mike Sewell (low net-31) and Mike Koler (tie for low gross-36) rode their outstanding rounds to an 18-4 defeat of Dillon Ezell/ Mike Manderino.
In Division 2, Scott Strong/ Dan Gillig had the low gross (40) and low net (31) rounds respectively, enabling them to dispatch DeWayne Bryan/ Vince Wilczek 18-4 and maintain their stranglehold on the Division 2 leader board.
Gary Skaggs/ Ron Sibley (over Kelly Mason/ Rodger Tiesing 17-5) and Don Peters/ Kelly Garretson (over Jack/ Chase Galle 14-8) each won their matches, but it was not enough. They finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively in Division 2.
Andy Lee and Dakota Holtgrieve ended their season on high note, dismantling Rolla Horton/ Bruce Kempton 20-2 and knocking them out of the running for the playoffs.
August 19, league play will wind up with interleague playoffs. Gillig/ Strong will play Shumway/ Meisenheimer for first; Skaggs/ Sibley will play Mathes/ Lewis for third; and Peters/ Garretson will play Laubhan/ DePew for fifth.
Others will begin playing scrambles that will continue on Tuesday nights until the time change.
