  • Looking to reload after graduating a two-time state-medalist doubles team, the Greenback girls have been hitting the practice courts with 12 on the roster.
Lead by four seasoned seniors, Ellie Brehm, Allicia Hall, Elee Hampton, and Jade Hoover, the Frogs return two-thirds of last year’s varsity. Hoover and Brehm will handle the singles responsibilities, while Hall and Hampton start their fourth year as doubles partners climbing to the #1 doubles spot.
Pairing up for the #2 doubles team, junior Lizzie Amaro and sophomore Ciara Hodgkinson round out the final two varsity spots.
Looking to gain some valuable court experience are frosh Brynn Hampton, sophomores Keisha Briggeman and Esmeralda Lopez, and juniors Hazen Hance, Eadie Monaghan and Cassie Van Slyke.
Of his team, head coach Larry Kahmeyer said, “Yes, we are a little diminished by losing Lauren McClain and Dani Williams to graduation, but I told the girls I’m not living in the past and neither should they. We are moving ahead with what we’ve got and I’ve set some lofty goals for our team. With a lot of hard work, I honestly think we can field multiple state entries. We get the honor of hosting a regional tournament this year, so the girls will be playing at home with supportive fans. We might start a little slow as we grow into our roles, but by mid- to late-season, I’m looking to materialize into a solid team.”
Tate Thompson will continue in his role as assistant coach and has a good mix of new and veteran players. This year will see four seniors depart, so Thompson has a big job in bringing four JV players up to the varsity level by the end of the season.
The varsity will start competition today at Lyons with play beginning at 3 p.m. Both teams will be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 2 as the varsity heads to Hillsboro and the JV hosts its opening tournament at the Walter Blake Tennis Complex.
