July 13, 2017: SOAP #2779: Isaiah 15-18; Hebrews 10

Scripture:  Hebrews (NIV)    10:32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering.  33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times, you stood side by side with those who were so treated.  34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

Observation:    The author of this letter to Jewish believers reminded them of their first days as Christians.   Their faith had been solid and withstood persecution, suffering and insults.   When others were persecuted, they stood with them, even when they were in prison.

One important aspect of being a Christian is how one looks at possessions.   The possessions awaiting them beyond the grave was so valuable that they 'joyfully accepted' the loss of their possessions this side of the grave.

Application:   When it comes to possessions, I must keep my focus on eternity.   Like Nate Saint said, 'He is not fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.'

Prayer:     Holy Spirit, help me invest earthly possessions to gain eternal souls. Help me see the eternal value possible in my earthly possessions.    Amen
