Scripture:  Jeremiah (NIV) 31:11 For the LORD will ransom Jacob and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they. .

Observation:    God likes to deliver his people from enemies that are too strong for them.   Obviously, they were helpless to deliver themselves.   God used His power to demonstrate His love on behalf of His people.

Those nearby who witness what happened, could easily understand that the Israelites were unable to free themselves.   A higher power had worked on their behalf!   The idol gods depended on people to move them from place to place and set them up; Israel depended on the True God to care for them and bring them victory.   What a difference!    The emphasis is not on what they can do for God, but on what God will do for them!

Application:   When I face a situation that is bigger than me and my abilities, I should rejoice.   I have just become a candidate for God to work on my behalf.   My words and actions should not communicate faith that I will be defeated, but faith that God will undertake and deliver me!

We used to sing, 'He's able, He's able; I know He's able.   I know my God is able to carry me through.   He healed the broken hearted; He set the captives free.   He made the lame to walk again and cause the blind to see.   He's able, He's able; I know He's able.   I know my God is able to carry me through.'

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, You are able, and thankfully, you are willing!  Amen
