Scripture:  Nehemiah (NIV) 4:16 From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah 17 who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, 18 and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. But the man who sounded the trumpet stayed with me.

Observation:   The Jews who had returned from captivity set about rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.   They met with a lot of opposition from the neighboring people.   Their goal was to rebuild the wall, but they also needed protection.   So, they did both.   Each builder was also a warrior.   Each warrior was also a builder.

Application:   God has given us ministry gifts and a ministry assignment.  AND He has also given us a suit of armor (Ephesians 6:10-17a) to wear for our protection along with a sword and prayer (17b-18) with which to defeat the enemy.

Prayer:     Holy Spirit, help me become more proficient in both areas of ministry.   Make me a blessing in building your church and the lives of others.   AND make me wise and strong in dealing with the enemy.    Amen
