October 16, 2017: SOAP #2874: Malachi 3-4; Psalm 148; Acts 5

Scripture:  Malachi (NIV) 3:13 “You have said harsh things against me,” says the LORD. “Yet you ask, 'What have we said against you?'
14 “You have said, 'It is futile to serve God. What did we gain by carrying out his requirements and going about like mourners before the LORD Almighty?

Observation:   The people were serving God, not because He was worthy of their service, but for what they could gain.   They expected a payoff for what they had done for Him.   They were not keeping His commandments because it was the right thing to do.   God was offended.   He wanted a love relationship; they wanted a business relationship.

Application:   Andre Crouch wrote: 'But if heaven never was promised to me,
Neither God's promise to live eternally. It's been worth just having the Lord in my life. Living in a world of darkness, You came along and brought me the light.'

Prayer:     Heavenly Father, you love me and you are generous.   I need not worry about my needs.  My priority should be on what I can do for you.      Amen
