October 17, 2017: SOAP #2875: Job 1-2; Acts 6-7

Scripture:  Acts (NIV) 6:8 Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. 9 Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)"Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia. These men began to argue with Stephen, 10 but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.

Observation:   Stephen was not one of the apostles, yet God used him to perform miracles like Jesus, and Peter, and Paul.   Stephen was a Jew with a Greek background, yet the Holy Spirit spoke mightily though him.

Application:   Looking at Stephen's life shows me that one's background need not hinder them from being used by God and anointed by the Holy Spirit.   It is not so much about where we came from, but where we are going that is most important.   That in no way lessens the importance of a godly heritage, for which I am extremely thankful.   But when I became a new creation in Christ Jesus, my heritage goes back through the cross.

Prayer:   Heavenly Father, we all travel a different route to become your child, saved by faith in the death of Jesus and filled with your Holy Spirit.   Like Stephen, use us for your glory!  Amen
