October 19, 2017: SOAP #2877: Job 5; Psalm 108; Acts 10-11

Scripture:  Acts (NIV) 11:20 Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. 21 The Lord's hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
22 News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. 23 When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.   24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

Observation:   Antioch was the city where Paul's ministry became accepted and from which he started his missionary journeys.   However, it was not the apostles from Jerusalem that traveled to Antioch to plant the church, but men from Cyprus and Cyrene.  (Acts 8:12, 11:20)     The Holy Spirit was not hindered by the fact that these were not disciples.

Application:   The Holy Spirit is more than capable of using anyone to advance the Kingdom of God.   It was not the ministry of great men, but the ministry of humble men anointed by The Great Holy Spirit.   Often, He chooses to use people of no reputation to ensure that only God gets the glory.

Prayer:     Holy Spirit, I want to be a vessel that you can move through. May you be glorified in me.  Amen
