March 08, 2018: SOAP #3017: Deuteronomy 7-9; Mark 15

Scripture:  Mark (NIV) 15:12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them. 13 “Crucify him!” they shouted. 14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” 15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. 25 It was the third hour when they crucified him.

Observation:    The old song says, 'Mercy there was great and grace of free, pardon there was multiplied to me'     The cross was a place of great mercy"a place of great grace"and a place of holy pardon.

Application:    Mercy flowed one way!   Mercy did not flow to the cross, but from the cross.   The One to whom no mercy was shown"the One who asked no mercy, extended mercy sufficient to cover all my sins!

Grace was not extended to the cross, but from the cross.   There was no holding back of the whipping nor the suffering on the cross.   Jesus bore the full price.   His grace flows from the cross to me.

There was no pardon for Jesus, but by making the perfect and complete sacrifice for sin, He provided a full pardon for me.

Prayer:     Lord Jesus, in contemplating what you have done for me, just saying thanks seems so inadequate.   You deserve my whole life dedicated to your service and for your glory.    Amen
