May 12, 2018: SOAP #3082: 2Samuel 21-23; 1Thessalonians 1

Scripture:  2Samuel (NIV) 22:7 In my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.

Observation:    David had personal experience with God.   This chapter emphasizes that David relied on God for his personal life and how God responded personally to David.

David did not ask for others to pray for him.   He did not want to send God a message through someone else.   He did not want to send a letter.   He talked to the LORD.

God heard David's voice.   God heard the distress and passion in David's voice.    David called, not whispered or prayed quietly from his heart.   If someone was with David, they would have had no doubt:   Davis was serious about this!

David's cry came to God's ears.   David communicated his need.   Only David could really tell God what David was thinking.   David was speaking; God was listening!

Application:    I know that when God speaks, I need to be listening.   That is obvious.   But I am so thankful that I have a God who hears me!     When I cry out in distress, HE listens!   He responds to me personally!     (NOTE: Gen 29:33)

Prayer:     Heavenly Father, thank you for the confidence you give us that you hear our prayers.   Thank you for personal experiences that show me that my prayers have been heard!     Amen
