Whether one is a classical music lover or someone who is intimidated by such concerts, there is always enthusiasm for the approach the “Ten O’Clock Classics” (TOC) take to make such music appealing to both types. Pratt Community Concert- goers will settle in for a night that mixes the likes of Gershwin and Beethoven on January 29th in PCC’s Carpenter auditorium. Beginning at 7:00 p.m. this Friday, this Pratt area audience will see the TOC quartet mixing styles, instrumentation, and genres, even throwing in some jazz rhythms.
Wynton Marsalis says “Ten O’Clock Classics” has created an inventive way to bring the joy of classical music to the uninitiated.” Hailed as “The Hip of Classical Music” by the “New York Times,” TOC has performed in venues throughout the world including New York’s Carnegie Hall as well as appearances in Paris and Melbourne. Those are appearances for those already familiar with classical music.
Founded in 2000 by Jullliard trained concert pianist, Ronen Segev, TOC was named for the highly unclassical 10:00 p.m. starting time of its initial performances at such non-classical locales as bars, apartments, health clubs, and jazz clubs like Studio 54, even appearances at half-time for NBA games.
This talented group will likely broaden one’s perceptions of classical music, maybe even change those who’ve previously been intimidated by it to listeners who are comfortable with it.
Anyone who does not have a season subscription to the 2009-2010 performances may buy a ticket at the door for this concert for $15.00.
RSVP offers a ride to and from each concert. Anyone needing this service may contact the RSVP office at 672-7811.
