Preston man injured when Suburban sideswipes semi

A Preston man was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 5:19 p.m. Sunday in Pratt County.

Donald Lee, 75 of Preston, was northbound on K-61 about eight miles north of Pratt in a 1984 Suburban when he crossed the center line and sideswiped a southbound 2007 Peterbilt semi with a flatbed trailer driven by James Battles, 52 of Mexico, Mo., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol website.

The Suburban crossed the highway and came to a stop on the Union Pacific tracks. Train traffic was stopped until the vehicle was cleared.

Pratt County EMS, with assistance from Pratt County Rescue and Township 12 Firefighters removed Lee from the vehicle and transported him to Pratt Regional Medical Center where he was later transported to Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.

Lee is listed in fair condition at the hospital. Battles was not injured in the accident.

The accident occurred eight miles north of Pratt and near the intersection of K-61 and NE 60th Avenue.
