The Pratt Lady Beavers fell to 10-6 overall and 0-2 in KJCCC play as the 8th ranked Seward County Lady Saints won 66-48 on Wednesday night.

The Lady Beavers, for the second game in a row, struggled at the start of the game as Seward opened a seven point lead with less than five minutes gone in the game. Ann Pauly would then hit the first of her two 3-point shots to get Pratt back within four.

The Lady Saints would have a 9-point run before Pauly would get her second triple of the night.  The next eight minutes would spell doom for the Lady Beavers as Seward put together a 16-4 spurt to all but seal the game as the Saints led at half 42-17.

The second half the Lady Beavers played the type of basketball that they are capable of and they would slowly cut into the lead. With about 10 minutes left in the game, Pratt had cut the lead from the 25 points to 16 and there was still hope for a comeback. The Saints would not allow Pratt to get any closer than 15 the rest of the way and would win by 18.

“We starting using Cari (Guyton) in the second half and anytime she gets touches in the post we are going to be much more successful,” said Coach Stephanie Thompson, explaining the difference between the halves. “We did a much better job of taking care of the ball in the second half and our defensive intensity also was better. “

Guyton scored a game-high 19 points, all came in the second half. She also pulled down 15 rebounds.  Pauly joined her in double figures with 12.

This evening the Lady Beavers go to Dodge City where they will take on the Conquistadors. The Conqs are currently 8-9 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. The tip will be at 5:30 at the United Wireless Arena.
