The Pratt Beavers fell to 0-2 in conference play as the Seward County Saints used a second half comeback to upend the Beavers 75-68.
Pratt controlled the first half as Taylor Rock would get an old fashioned 3-point play a little over a minute into the game. After a basket by Jon Rutherford and a 3-pointer from Aaron Abrams, the Beavers were up by six. Pratt was able to push the lead to 11 points at the 7:04 mark before Seward would slowly creep back into the game.
They would finally get within six points with less than 2 minutes remaining in the half and that is where the margin would stay as Pratt went into the locker room with a 35-29 advantage.
The Saints came out of the locker room quickly and put together a 12-3 run to go up by 3 with 17:19 left in the game. Pratt would have a run of their own as Bryton Hobbs would get a field goal 16 seconds later and then it was the Trae Beck show.
Beck would make a long 2-point shot with 16:18 left to put the Beavers back ahead 42-41. The next two minutes he would drain three 3-point shots to push the lead to 10.
Seward would work to get back into the game and with 4:47 left they were able to tie the game up at 62. A little less than four minutes left Seward would get a field goal to go up by two but Rutherford would nail a 3-point shot to give Pratt a 65-64 lead with 3 1/2 minutes left.
Seward would make a 3-point shot 30 seconds later to go up by two. Neither team would score until the Saints got a basket with 39.8 seconds left for a 4-point lead. Beck answered seven seconds later with his fifth make behind the 3-point line to get Pratt back within one.
Seward sealed the game with six three throws in the last 30 seconds.
Beck had a team high 17 points on the night and Hobbs contributed eight assists. Taylor Rock pulled down nine rebounds and Aaron Abrams had eight.
Tonight Pratt goes to Dodge City where they see the Conquistadors, who are receiving votes in the national poll and are 14-3 overall and 2-1 in Jayhawk West play.
