The Pratt Lady Beavers picked up their first Jayhawk West win as they beat Dodge City 53-39 behind sophomores Cari Guyton and Ann Pauly who combined for 24 points.
The Conqs opened the game with a 3-pointer. A little over a minute in Pauly would get a lay-up to get Pratt within a point. Sarah Johnson would get a steal at the 16 minute mark and would get an assist as Whitney Bates scored a layup to put the Lady Beavers up 4-3, a lead they would never lose.
Pratt’s defense caused Dodge problems through out the game as they forced nine first half turnovers and held them to 28 percent shooting.
The Lady Beavers shooting was not much better as they made only 30 percent of their shots and would lead at half by four.
The second half the Lady Beaver offense got going as they were able to push the lead to 14 points with just under 10 minutes left in the game. The Conqs were able to cut the lead to nine points just once the rest of the way as Pratt easily held on.
Guyton was one rebound short of a double-double as she had a team high 14 points and nine rebounds. Pauly had 10 points and Bates had nine assists on the night.
The Lady Beavers return to action Wednesday night as they play host to the Garden City Broncbusters. The Broncs are 13-5 on the year but just 1-3 in league play. They are coming off a 58-3 loss to Colby. The game will tip-off at 6 p.m. at Pratt Community College.
