The Greenback boys’ basketball team won their 12th straight game of the year as they beat the Macksville Mustangs for the second time in five days 64-39.

Pratt, ranked second in 4A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association and 10th in the Topeka Capital Journal’s Boys’ Super 10, raced out to an early lead, and when Micah Swank hit a 3-point shot with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter the Greenbacks were up 11-4. Payson Maydew g0t a fast break lay-up off a great pass from Swank and Grayson Hostetler scored late in the quarter to give Pratt a 15-8 lead.

Skylar Dean opened the second quarter with a basket and after a Mustang free throw B. J. Dean made one of his own. A little over two minutes into the quarter Maydew got another basket and the Greenback lead was in double figures. Swank scored the next 11 points for the Greenbacks on three 3-pointers and a field goal and the lead was 15 with two minutes left before half.  Macksville got five points before halftime but a free throw by Dylan Besser and a bucket by B.J. and Pratt was ahead 34-21 at half.

The Mustangs were able to cut the lead to 11 four minutes into the quarter but the Greenbacks took control of the game at this point.  Over the next 2 1/2 minutes Pratt went on a 10-point run with Maydew getting the first basket and Swank following with two.  The Deans each got a field goal in a 10 second span and the lead was 48-27.

Pratt entered the fourth quarter ahead by 20 and they stretched it out to 28 points before the night was over before finally winning by 25.  Swank led all scorers with 26 points.

“Our kids came to play defense tonight and it showed as Macksville only shot 26 percent for the game,” Coach David Swank said. “We did not give them any easy shots. Our intensity was good and again the guys off the bench gave us great minutes. Austin McClain, Thomas Mayberry and Hostetler all played double digit minutes and helped spark the team.

“Payson had a very good game, patiently waiting for the basketball and he finished with 16 points, 7 boards and 3 blocks. He dominated space inside on offense and defense. Also on the boards, it was good to see Skylar, BJ and Micah all end up with at least four rebounds. We are the best when rebounding is a team effort.”
