ElVena Barnes age 87 of Kenton passed away peacefully with her family at

her side on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in

Findlay, OH.  She was born June 24, 1929 in West Frankfort, IL the

daughter of the late Jessie Columbus and Hessie (Shows) Weaver.  ElVena

was married to Charles Barnes and they were divorced.  He passed away

April 1, 2011.

ElVena is survived by her children Jeffrey (Merleen) Barnes of Kenton, OH,

James Barnes (Janet Hendrix) of Del Norte, CO, and Jane (Jerry) Temple of

Kenton, OH; grandchildren David (Shannon) Barnes of Forest, OH, Laura

(Brad) Wingfield of Kenton, OH, Andrea (Kenneth) Seaver of Fruita, CO,

Elizabeth (Jason) Howe of Kenton, OH, Katie (Eric) Latimore of Kenton, OH,

Tracy (Anne) Temple of Kenton, OH, and Travis (Alicia) Temple of West

Liberty, OH; 21 great grandchildren; and a special friend Herbert

Oberlightner of Kenton, OH.  She was preceded in death by her brothers

John Columbus "JC" Weaver and Beverly Weaver, and her sisters Erline

Bright and Arvine Davis.

She was a graduate of the West Frankfort High School class of 1948.

Following graduation and attending Nursing School in Chicago she was a

Homemaker and later worked for Ray Barnes Newspapers Inc.  She was the

publisher of the Homestead Magazine affiliated with the Pratt Tribune in

Kansas.

ElVena was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kenton and  an

active member in the Kansas Republican Women's Assoc.  She visited the

White House as an invited guest of President Richard Nixon and was active

in Kansas Senator Bob Dole's campaigns.

She loved to spend time with family and friends and was an avid gardener.

Family and friends are invited to a casual event to Celebrate the Life of

ElVena Barnes and share memories at the Little Chicago Room in Kenton, OH

on Friday January 27, 2017 from 5-7 p.m.  Burial will take place in West

Frankfort, IL at a later date.
