KANSAS Magazine is asking a very personal question — what’s your favorite place to eat? More specifically, what’s your favorite non-chain restaurant to eat?
The statewide magazine — a division of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism — has a survey currently asking for state residents to nominate their favorite local restaurant.
No corporate franchises or chains are eligible.
This contest won’t include McDonald’s, Subway or Kentucky Fried Chicken. It can, however, include Dodge City eateries Kate’s, Green Bean Coffee Company and Prime on the Nine. Pizza Hut is not eligible, but Bella Italia is.
"Everyone wants to eat where the locals eat," said Jan Stevens, executive director of Dodge City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. "If we got enough people to nominate local restaurants, we could get one listed into the voting.
"It would be great if we can get a local restaurant to win. It would be great for the restaurant and also good for Dodge City."
The magazine wants those submitting restaurants to tell them why they are nominating that particular restaurant — best brunch, greatest tacos, a late-night hangout — and to get nominations in before March 14. Locations with the most nominations will move on to the voting round, which begins on March 15.
Nominations can be entered by mail, email, submission form at www.travelks.com/ks-mag/readers-choice/?guid=d7c1db98-e7ea-4180-b220-49bda056ce41&preview=true or social media users can participate through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #bestlocaleatsks.
Winners will be determined by the number of votes received and will be revealed in the 2017 winter edition of Kansas Magazine.
