A St. John man is in fair condition following a one-vehicle rollover accident July 24 in northwest Stafford County.

Scott Claussen, 48 of St. John was injured in the accident and is at Wesley Medical Center.

The accident occurred when Claussen was northbound on NW 70th Avenue about 2.5 miles north of U.S. 50 in a 2001 International semi truck when he lost control went into the east ditch. The semi and trailer rolled one and three-quarters time then came to rest on the driver's side. Claussen was trapped in the vehicle for some time before he was freed and transported to Pratt Regional Medical Center then transferred by helicopter to a Wichita hospital, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol Crash Log website.

The road was closed for several hours while a hazmat crew from Great Bend took care of the liquid asphalt in the tanker. The accident was reported about 2:45 p.m. on July 24.
