IUKA — Jack Elmo Strait, 84, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at Pratt Health and Rehab in Pratt, KS. He was born June 20, 1933 in Opelousas, LA. At the age of 5 he was adopted by Karl and Beulah (Miller) Strait. On August 26, 1954 he married Eleanor Ann Grunder at Seattle, WA. She survives.
Jack served stateside in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Pratt Promenaders Square Dance Club, Iuka United Methodist Church, Ankole-Watusi Association, Spanish Barb Preservation Association, and for a period of time he was the Tail Twister of the Iuka Lions Club. He helped coach the Iuka Hustlers little league baseball team. He was a farmer-stockman and drove a grain truck/trailer for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, a daughter, Lisa (Ed) Petrowsky of Pratt, a son, Chad (Tina) Strait of Dyersburg, Tennessee, three grandchildren, Robert Petrowsky, Ashley Badamo, Jessica Freels, five great grandchildren, and a brother, Larry (Helen) Strait of Arvada, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sondra Backman.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, Ks. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Iuka United Methodist Church, Iuka, KS with Louis Keeling and Larry Strait presiding. Burial will be in Iuka Cemetery.
