MANHATTAN — Ruth Anna Wiens, age 92, of Manhattan, died December 2, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
She was born June 20, 1925, in Copeland, Kansas, and grew up on the family farm, the fourth child of seven born to John and Minnie (Gede) Nusser. Ruth graduated from Copeland High School and married Alvin Wiens in 1945. They lived in Copeland until 1956 when they moved to Pratt, Kansas. Mrs. Wiens was a stay at home mother until her children were raised, then she worked in a dress and shoe store until she retired. They were active members of the Lutheran Church. For many years she taught the preschool Sunday school class. Faith was always an important part of her life. Ruth and Alvin lived in Pratt until moving to Manhattan in 2008. They lived in Stoneybrook Assisted Living for three years. Alvin died in 2011. Ruth then lived in Stoneybrook Health Care.
Ruth is survived by two sons: Keith and his wife Carol of Manhattan, and Myron “Mack” and his wife Sharon of Fort Worth, TX; six grandchildren: Ryan Wiens (Heather), Aaron Wiens (Kelly), Nathan Wiens, Jason Wiens (Annelise), Chris Wiens (Maddie), and Erin Lacey; five great grandchildren: Avery, Nicholas, Lucas, Kate and Jubilee; and two sisters: Lydia Springer of St. Petersburg, FL, and Leora Horst and her husband Lee of Denver, CO. Ruth was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Elaine Wiens; and four siblings: Edna Nelsen, Herbert and Edward Nusser and Grace Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5th, at the Walsburg Lutheran Church. Private family graveside services will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, KS.
