A. Conrad “Con” Banbury, 81, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Con was born on October 1, 1936 in Sawyer Kansas, the son of Arthur and Virginia (Scott) Banbury. He grew up in Sawyer and Pratt Kansas. He graduated from Pratt High School in 1954. He attended University at Colorado State receiving a degree in Forestry. Con served in the army and played in the Army Band touring Europe. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Emporia State.

He was married to Joyce Berridge on August 20, 1969 in Smith Center. Joyce brought two sons to their family, Martin and Michael Heaton. Con and Joyce made their home in Russell in the spring of 1970. They owned Banbury Cross, a flower shop, for 10 years. Con also taught music at Gorham High School and worked at Hays Greenhouse. He was the custodian at Trinity United Methodist Church for over 20 years.

Con was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, singing in the church and Russell community choirs. Con most enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving family include his wife Joyce of the home. Martin Heaton (Suzann) of Salina, Kansas and Michael Heaton (Linda) of Winfield Kansas. Grandchildren; Ashley Heaton (Charla) of Anthem Arizona, Dannie’ll Heaton (Neal Trober) of Russell Kansas, Richard Heaton of Russell Kansas, and Sean Heaton of Winfield Kansas. He has 8 Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Con’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell, Kansas. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
