Serene Leaf at 105 West Fourth Street is an outlet for hemp-based products.

Amanda and Jared Cordes have opened Serene Leaf, a new retail business at 105 West Fourth Street, which brings hemp-based products, including CBD oils, to Pratt area residents.

“Business has been brisk since we opened and a lot of people still don’t know we’re here,” said Amanda.

Cordes said that she and Jared started the business because they saw the need for a local outlet for cannabidiol products that are growing in popularity for their advertised health benefits.

Her personal experience with CBD made her a believer, Cordes said, and encouraged her and Jared to bring the products to the Pratt area.

“I started using CBD myself for anxiety because I didn’t want to take meds,” she said. “I would become really anxious driving on a highway. It got to the point where it would almost become a full-blown panic attack.”

Since using CBD products for several months, she said she is no longer experiencing anxiety and has been able to resume highway driving.

Jeremy Cota of Cullison said he was making a purchase for a family member Wednesday, who found the CBD products now available at the Serene Leaf store, helpful in dealing with anxiety and sleep problems.

Cota said the pricing at Serene Leaf is competitive with mail-order and online orders and that he liked the convenience of shopping locally.

“Amanda and Jared do a good job with the pricing,” Cota said.

Serene Leaf carries the Green Roads brand of CBD products and their offerings include the full spectrum of products available as vape pens, sublingual oils and edibles.

‘There are no ‘highs’ from any of the products,” Cordes said.

A Green Roads brochure lists multiple symptoms that the company said may be alleviated by CBD products, including inflammation, nausea, hot flashes, headaches, joint, muscle and back pain, anxiety, digestive issues, spasticity, trouble sleeping, cramps, frequent urination and irritated skin.

“It’s wonderful to see what it can do for people,” Cordes said. “From sales and the interest that people have shown, it’s gratifying how well we’ve been accepted in our small community.”

Cordes said the name for their business is derived from the name of their oldest daughter, Serinyti, who is eight. They also have a seven-year-old daughter, Charyti. Both girls attend school in Pratt.

The Cordes family moved to Pratt seven years ago from Ulysses, Kan., when Jared, who is a master plumber, took a job with Intergreen Services, Inc. Amanda is employed as activities director at Pratt Rehabilitation and Residence Center.

Serene Leaf business hours are 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Business phone is 620-450- 5423. Mail orders are also an option.
