Pratt High Girls Golf pushed through rain delay obstacles to earn team and individual placings.

A successful golf tournament in Medicine Lodge on September 4 yielded a fourth-place finish for Pratt High varsity girls golf as well as a first-place finish for the junior varsity team.

For varsity, Aubrey Meyers earned second-place with a 46; In the JV tournament, Alaina Hedrick placed 5th with a 67, Annika Larrison placed 8th with a 70, and the entire JV team placed first overall after beating Hoisington by one stroke—284 Pratt, 285 Hoisington.

This was the JV team’s first tournament of the season, said Kyle Farmer, assistant coach, so it was good that they were able to rise to the challenge and take first-place.

“Putting and chipping still need to be worked on,” Farmer said. “The girls are doing well with their drivers and fairway woods [though].”

One of six seniors on the team this year, Sarah Skaggs said that the team persevered despite two rain delays during the tournament.

“We pushed through and we all played really well,” Skaggs said. “There’s some room for improvement [but] it’s only the second meet. We’re super excited for the home meet next week.”

On September 10, the girls golf team will have their first and only home tournament but throughout the rest of the season, the girls will also face Larned, Hesston, Cheney and Pretty Prairie.
