The Greenback tennis team played in their home tournament on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Green- back tennis team competed in a home meet at Walter Blake Tennis Complex in Pratt. Though they didn’t bring many medals home, players fought hard and improved from the beginning of the season, according to Coach Tate Thompson.

Erin Jackson, the #1 singles player, came home with a 3rd place medal and a record of 3-2.

“Jackson has improved greatly from the first week, battling in a close game against Kristina Head from Lyons, but losing 4- 6,” Thompson said. “She is only a sophomore but has been putting up a good fight against girls from much larger schools. This is the kind of improvement we continue to expect from Erin as the season wears on.”

Kahrie Stegman and Vanessa Lecker, the #1 doubles team, finished in a three-way tie for 3rd.

Thompson said they played well but ended up losing the medal due to criteria.

The #2 singles player, Isabella Barker, didn’t bring any medals home but showed improvements, Thompson said.

Rachel Reichenberger and Charlene Gangl, the #2 doubles team, also did not place, but have been improving every time out.

The Pratt team will play next Monday at Maize South.

“There are a lot of 5A and 6A tennis schools at this event and we will be a bit over matched, but it is good for the girls to see where we need to try and get to,” Thompson said.
