A 70-year-old Pratt business is back in business following a closing, reorganization and a new partnership all within the space of just over a month.
Pratt Glass is now Pratt Glass Enterprises LLC and Superior Fire is now Superior Fire Equipment LLC.
Former owners Roger and Kris Adelhardt have formed a new partnership with Roger, LeRoy Jones and his sons Mark Jones and Jeff Jones to reopen the business.
Roger Adelhardt started working at Pratt Glass in 1983. The business was closing in 1999 but Adelhardt didn’t want that to happen so the Adelhardt family purchased the business in 1999 and ran it until some personal family matters brought it to a close in August.
“I could no longer handle the additional stress and decided to shut it down,” Adelhardt said.
The business closed on August 28. Adelhardt and employee Casey Pritchett worked to finish outstanding jobs.
That is when the Jones family stepped in and helped bring Pratt Glass back to life starting with talks in mid September.
LeRoy Jones had done business with Pratt Glass for many years after his family moved to Pratt in 1971. Jones didn’t want to lose Pratt Glass and Superior Fire Equipment so he approached Adelhardt about reopening the business.
Jones, the retired owner of Kennedy and Coe Accounting, had 44 years of experience working with the public and knew the importance of customer service.
After working out a new partnership among Adelhardt, LeRoy, Mark and Jeff, the business reopened its doors on Oct. 1.
The business is currently in the process of hiring and training employees and taking care of customers. It will take some time to get the business completely reorganized but they are offering all the business services.
“We’re taking one step at a time to get the business put back together to serve the community,” Jones said.
Adelhardt said they are looking to the future and considering ways to expand their services.
“I’m excited,” Adelhardt said. “ I love working in the glass field. It’s a great opportunity for my self.”
Mark Jones said it was exciting on a personal level to have all the different skills dedicated to customer service and quality. The business is busy developing the computer system and software to serve the business and software.
