Rotary club came to Skyline to promote a project called Painting Across America.
Rotary is an organization that has a passion to change lives in their community. One way is to give a visual aid of the United States to kids. They paint the outline of the United States on school sidewalks.
“A visual aid is a great asset,” president Donna Meier Pfeifer said. “You can retain it longer.”
Meier Pfeifer has served as president for district 5650 for three years. She enjoys her job and how it makes a difference in kids’ lives.
Skyline’s superintendent, Mike Sanders, liked the idea and agreed to the project. The location of the project took place on the south side of the building on the playground basketball court.
The location was ideal because it gave plenty of room for painting the outline and for kids to play on.
High school students from Leadership got involved. The students helping were excited to participate in the project.
“I’m pretty excited,” senior Alexis Mesmer said. “It’s good for the younger students.”
She said it was a blast seeing the kids’ reaction when they saw the outline all painted.
The Rotary Club has been reaching out to all the schools in district 5650 to get them to paint the United States. Schools pass around the templates of the 50 states and share the paint that Rotary has supplied for the project.
In the past few days kids have been playing on and expanding their knowledge of each state. Students and staff members are appreciative that Rotary came to the school to get students to work together to finish a project that will keep on giving.
Parent Jeanette Fortkamp thinks it was a nice project to do.
“It was a good opportunity for the younger students to look up to the student leaders in a positive way,” Fortkamp said..
