Payson Maydew, representing Pratt High School National Honor Society, looks through a group of displays during Lemon Park Lights take down Sunday afternoon in Lemon Park. Maydew and other NHS members helped take down displays. Local firefighters have volunteered for duty next year if the Lights expand to Sixth Street Park.

Several groups of volunteers helped take down the Lemon Park Lights this weekend. Another group of volunteers is ready to help put up an addition to the lights planned for Sixth Street Park.

Deb Goyen, Lemon Park Lights organizer, proposed to the City Commissioners of putting a 12 Days of Christmas display in Sixth Street Park. Several issues have to be resolved before the commission votes on the new display

Getting a group to set up the display was a major issue for this new addition.

“Finding a workforce was a big part of the project,” Goyen said.

Many of the service organizations are already committed to set up and take down a specific display group.

Pratt City Fire Chief David Kramer heard about proposal and the problem. He spoke with his firefighters and contacted Township 12 Fire Chief Mark McManaman, who also spoke to his firefighters about taking on the task, and both groups agreed they would take charge of setting up and taking down the 12 Days of Christmas display, Kramer said.

Having the workforce in place is a major step to getting the 12 Days of Christmas in Sixth Street Park, Goyen said.

Other elements to be resolved before the commissioners can vote on the new display are storage space for the display and installing the necessary electricity in Sixth Street Park, Goyen said.

Goyen has already located a display but it has not been purchased. It can be purchased for half price at the beginning of the year so she wants to move quickly on the matter.

Pratt Travel and Tourism has the funds necessary to purchase the display but it would be nice to have donors contribute to the purchase price, Goyen said.
