The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) will conduct a basic wingshooting clinic at the Pratt Gun Club in July. The course, sponsored by KDWPT’s Pass It On program, will include four sessions conducted on Tuesday evenings, beginning July 5 and is open to anyone age 12 or older. The course is designed for beginning shotgun shooters and will provide instruction from the very basic to more advanced techniques.
Each session will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Session 1 will cover basic safety, proper shotgun fit, stance, and live fire at incoming and outgoing targets. Session 2, on July 12, will introduce techniques needed to hit targets at various angles and distances. Session 3, on July 19, will introduce more difficult targets, such as hard-crossing, rabbit, and odd-trajectory targets. Session 4 will complete the clinic on July 26 by presenting targets in wingshooting situations.
The clinic will cost $25 for all four sessions, payable at Session 1. Guns, ammo, targets, and eye and ear protection will be provided. It is anticipated that each student will fire two to four boxes of 20-gauge ammunition per session, or 50-100 rounds. Only KDWP guns and ammunition will be allowed on the range.
Because the class size is limited to 12, pre-registration is required.
Phone the KDWP Hunter Education Section at 620-672-5911 to pre-register.
