Skyline students are looking forward to being locked in at Pratt Community College on April 14. They arrive 30 minutes after the junior-senior prom ends and stay for breakfast in the wee hours the next morning.
Most students attend, few go home early, which would necessitate a call to their parents, and the event is made possible by the generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations that help provide prizes, food and other expenses of the after-prom event.
A recent letter requesting donations is the final effort, after four large fund-raisers by Skyline parents, according to Angela Runnion-Urban, who co-chairs the event with Amy Swonger.
The parents started with a golf tournament last summer, followed by a golf ball drop in the fall, a Rudolph Run on a cold night in December and last weekend’s after-prom basketball tournament.
Many of the larger prizes have already been purchased to fill a “wish list” of juniors and seniors as they get ready to go to college or equip a first apartment or home.
“We’ve got some pretty good shoppers who watch the sales,” Runnion-Urban commented.
Businesses have been very supportive in the past, she said, and she hopes they are willing again to help provide a safe, supervised, fun event on what is traditionally a very dangerous night.
Donations can be sent to Skyline School-Attention 2012 After Prom, 29269 W. US Hwy 54, Pratt, KS 67124. The committee will make arrangements to pick up prizes. Receipts can be provided for tax purposes.
