Books for Life, the educational branch of Trees for Life in Wichita, is seeking one or more volunteers in the Pratt area to help sort used children’s books for their “Teach the World to Read” book drive in Dillon’s grocery stores this month. The goal this year is 100,000 books. The books will be used to create libraries in impoverished areas of the United States and in poor countries around the world.
Volunteers who can help to sort books should call Jill Hutton at Trees for Life/Books for Life at (316) 945-6929 or email jill@treesforlife.org.
Volunteer responsibilities involve picking up the books at the assigned Dillon’s store approximately once a week, sorting the books for appropriateness, and packing the books into boxes. The boxes should be returned to the Dillon’s store, which will transport them to Hutchinson for shipping.
During February the Dillon’s Stores will have book drop locations in each of their stores. Shoppers may drop in their good, used children’s picture books during February, the month of love and friendship. In this way, these well-loved old books will continue to bring joy and hope to children around the world. More information is available on the web site www.booksforlife.org/bookdrive.
