Fair hands out awards and scholarships Thursday

An evening of awards followed the bucket calf competition at the Pratt County Fair Thursday. Wyatt Slade took home the champion purple in the bucket calf competition.

The Steve Kraisinger Service Award went to Jack and Janet Black for their years of service to the fair. Ryan Will was chosen for the Kraisinger Scholarship. He was also selected for the Pratt County Fair 4-H Foundation scholarship. Trent Befort received the first ever Jean Clarkson-Frisbie scholarship.

Ashley Fitzsimmons was a double winner in the food auction with $270 for her surprise chocolate cake purchased by Corlis Goyen and $410 for her double cherry pie purchased by the Feed Barn Superintendents. Praise Murphy’s honey wheat tomato basil bread brought $225 also purchased by Corlis Goyen.

Glendale Reapers led all clubs in membership sales with 389 for $710. Southwest-251-$517: Pratt Pioneers-178-$357: Lincoln Climbers-169-$389: Golden Valley-129-$309: Richland Rustlers-59-$86: Preston-58-$77.

President’s Cookie Jar winner was Lincoln Climbers, Southwest took first place in the 4-H booth competition and the Pratt Pioneers took the Pratt Area Chamber of Commerce award for the best banner.

Jerry DeWeese purchased the “Barn to be Wild” quilt for $550. The quilt block winner for “Treasure Chest of the County’s Best” was Joy Kahmeyer Davis. 

The Kanza Co-op Pratt North facility took top prize for the Wheat Show while Jessie Blasi was the county individual champion.

Ethel Westphal won the Jean Clarkson-Frisbie sewing machine with proceeds going to the Clarkson-Frisbie fund.

The First State Bank team took the first place trophy for the Barnyard Olympics.
