Sue Boldra is a Republican candidate applying for the job of U.S. Representative for the First Congressional District in Kansas. With a dual degree in English and history, Boldra spent 33 years teaching history and government at Hays, she is well aware of the financial needs in education. She also teaches social studies in the Fort Hays State University.
She and her husband ran Sportsman’s Supply in Hays for 20 years and she understands how to operate a business.
Getting term limits is a priority for Boldra. With Congress getting a 17 percent approval rating but historically getting re-elected 95 percent of the time, the county needs term limits to get the big money, gerrymandering, ear marks and special interest groups out of Washington, Boldra said.
“We’re going to take Democracy out for a spin and see how she works,” Boldra said.
Energy is a critical issue across the entire country. The countries energy strategy needs to take advantage of new technologies and sources of energy including, renewable energies, to help solve the countries dependency on foreign oil.
The country needs citizen legislators like herself who has a masters in political science, has spent her entire life in the First District and knows how to balance a budget. A balanced budget is something Pres. Barack Obama doesn’t know how to do, Boldra said.
“I’ve done the jobs that Kansans do,” Boldra said.
America needs to secure her southern boarders with an actual wall to send a message that America will help the people who seek citizenship but through legal means. The revolving door of sending people back across the boarder only to have them cross again has to stop, she said.
Cap and trade also needs to go because it is sending American jobs to China.
She wants to prioritize farm and ranch commodities so they are no longer imported from other parts of the world at the expense of American agriculture
Tax reform is essential for growth in the country. An across the board reduction in federal taxes is a vital part of that reform.
The Second Amendment is a key part of American culture. Farmers and hunters are ardent stewards of the land and Boldra said she would protect the Second Amendment’s guarantees without reservation.
She considers the other candidates either career politicians that are part of the problem or they are very young and don’t have her life experience.
Boldra is married and has four children.
