John Lorin Chitwood Jr., 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Pratt, the son of John and Myrna Farmer Chitwood. A longtime resident of Pratt, he was an insurance adjuster for the Kansas State Insurance Board, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 1451, and American Legion, all in Pratt.
He was an U.S. Army veteran.
In 1947, he married Wilma Jean Piatt in Overland Park. She preceded him in death in 1969. In 1991 he married Alicemacy Nadine Simms-Fetterman in Pratt. She preceded him in death in 2008.
He is survived by two sons, Richard L. and wife Debi, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Robert A. and wife Susan, Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Valerie Moser and husband Kirk, Trisha Davis and husband Nate, David Chitwood and fiancée Camden Maxwell, and Ryan Chitwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Lawrence Chitwood.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Monday at Larrison Mortuary, with the Rev. Dan Ferguson, and Chaplain Fred Pinkerton officiating. Cremation has taken place. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
