Friends are invited to attend a graveside interment service at 11 a.m. June 20 for Wanga A. Swander, 93, who died Dec. 9, 2008, at the Belmont Vista Senior Community Assisted Living Residence in Belmont, Calif. She will be buried alongside her husband Harley and other Swander family members in Maud Cemetery, Cunningham.
She was born June 14, 1915, in Plains to Lewis and Elma Chamberlain.
She was raised in Pretty Prairie, where she met and later married Harley R. Swander on Dec. 26, 1937, in Kingman. They moved to South San Francisco in 1939, then moved to San Mateo, Calif., in 1951 and resided there until Harley’s death June 2, 2000.
She was an active member of the Hillside Methodist Church and was a member of the choir, Methodist Women’s Society, Building Fund and Endowment Committees for more than 50 years.
She is survived by two sons, Jay A. Swander and wife Mary Lou, Albuquerque, N.M., and Lee E. Swander and wife Gail, San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren, Robert L. Swander and wife Shaun, San Jose, Jeffrey A. Swander and wife Whitney, Longmont, Colo., David A. Swander, San Jose, Janea A. Swander, Radford, Va., Scott B. Allison and wife Karen, Stamford, Conn., and Amy E. Allison, Denver; and great-grandchildren, Garrett R. Smith and Rachael L. Swander, San Jose, and Eva K. and Hannah B. Allison, Stamford, Conn.
